The Creative Chaos Craft Show of today grew out of a show put on in 1971 by Eva Prokopetz, a porcelain painter and Barbara York, a ceramist. The first show was not a sale; it was an exhibition only of porcelain, ceramics and original art. Each entrant was charged $1.00 for their first piece and 25 cents for each additional piece. This was a two-day show, Saturday and Sunday, and was held in the Vernon Recreation Center Auditorium.

In 1972 the show was expanded to three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The schools were approached to display their woodwork, metalwork, sewing and artwork. On Friday 4000 schoolchildren were bussed to the show. Food was available and there were demonstrations of weaving, artists, and pottery, dancing and singing. Entrants this year were charged by the table - the exorbitant sum of $1.00 per foot. An art class at Vernon Senior Secondary School designed the Creative Chaos logo in 1975.

In 1975 the exhibition became a show and sale and the name was changed to CREATIVE CHAOS. The first chairman was Mike Young; the show was held May 30th and June 1st and was expanded to include the Vernon Curling Rink. The performing arts and the food faire were a part of this first Creative Chaos. The schools still displayed their artwork.

In 1983 Creative Chaos expanded to encompass the outdoor tennis court area, which became home to the Performing Arts, food faire and the Lions Beverage Gardens (this was dropped in 1990 due to prohibited rules and regulations).

A babysitting service was supplied for many years by the Vernon Girls Trumpet Band ensuring peaceful and leisurely shopping for parents. This was in the Dogwood Gym.

In 1995, our 20th anniversary we again expanded, this time to include the Priest Valley Arena.

Creative Chaos has always let the public be the judge and jury of the crafts. It is our toughest critic. This was the original intention of the founding members as they felt that a lot of crafters were not getting a chance to show their crafts and the public was being told what they should and should not like.

The Creative Chaos Society is a non-profit organization run by volunteers who donate their time and energy to planning the Creative Chaos craft show
